Our Web Hosting

FatCow.com offers the best web hosting service. Our site is hosted with them ever since I switched to Wordpress and is highly recommended. At that time though there were several good webhosting deals, I primarily chose FatCow due to the cheap webhosting yet powerful feature rich package they offered. But over time, I have come to love FatCow for several more reasons I want to share with you…

Hosting Servers

1. Excellent Customer Support

FatCow has an excellent mechanism of addressing customer complaints. Whenever my sites were down, I just had to lodge my complaint in their automated support, or fill in the support form which takes into account the severity of the errors (to sort the urgent issues first) and what your expertise about the subject is (so they do not feedback professional webmasters and sysadmins like novices).

I needed customer support twice over the last 5 months, once the sites were back up in 5 minutes and the other time in 1 hour. After that there is an email informing you of the fix and a follow up survey about your feedback regarding the customer support guy. You can keep track of all your support history. There is nothing worse than having a site down and not having any response from your webhost.

2. Unlimited bandwidth and Storage Space

I do not know of any other webhosting service which will offer you Unlimted Storage and Bandwidth!  5TB (terabytes!) of bandwidth per month and that too increasing by 40GB every week. I remember my first site I hosted on Geocities, it had a miserly bandwidth of few MB per day and the site used to offline any day there was a traffic spike. Monthly Bandwidth is very important because a link on Digg or slashdot can drive huge site traffic your way and finish your limited bandwidth in a few hours, leaving you to pay to let your site stay online. They even allow bandwidth throttling to save bandwidth.

3. One click Installations and Upgrades

This is yet another wonderful feature that lets you start your own blog (wordpress), forum (PhpBB), wiki (MediaWiki), image album (Gallery), store (ZenCart), CMS (Joomla) etc in a matter of a few minutes. Initially I created a forum, wiki and wordpress blog in 10 minutes. Imagine uploading each package and configuring it on your own if you had no prior experience with it.

FatCow currently supports following 1 click installs (both PHP4 and PHP5) – WordPress, phpBB Forum, Gallery Image Album, ZenCart Store, Joomla (Mambo) CMS, activeCollab Collaboration, OpenX, MediaWiki Wiki, Advanced Poll and WebCalendar Calendar.

If you use multiple wordpress blogs, they can set it up in minutes and upgrade them too. That goes for all tools they install automatically.

4. Host Unlimited Domains, Subdomains, Databases

Most other good webhosts will allow you to host a few domains and subdomains, but definitely not unlimited. Now you can create as many subdomains as you like, host all your domain names on one account and pay no extra charges for it. Imagine the ability to host hundreds of domain names for the same prices (of course it is shared hosting). And top it up with unlimited free databases on each domain!

5. Make Money with FatCow Affiliate Rewards

You will never need to pay for webhosting again as they let you use your affiliate earnings for your yearly fees. Make money via the FatCow affiliate program and encash it via Paypal. Provide discount promo codes to help your visitors get cheap webhosting deals.

6. Neat and Easy Control Panel

Even a person who is hosting his personal site for the first time will find it easy to navigate around the panel. It is simple and helps to easily track all your hosted domain names. Simple help explanations and warnings prevent you from doing something foolish and make even techies feel comfortable. Simplicity does not compromise on the powerful features and functions you can perform with the simple interface.

7. Maximum Power Features You Need

The package meets the demand of the the newbie personal site creator and the professional webmaster alike. It comes power packed with  CGI, PHP4 & PHP5, Ruby on Rails, SSI, Jabber chat server, Quicktime streaming, frontpage extensions and numerous other powerful tools I know less about and might never use. But it is great to know you can expand your web services to new levels, when you require without paying more, or looking for another service to host them.

8. FatCow Status Notifications

The FatCow status pages keeps you aware of what exactly is the problem going on in different web servers, what is the cause of downtimes and when scheduled upgrades are expected. You can subscribe their feed for every anouncement on FatCow Status. They are willing to truly convey their problems.

9. FatCow Blog and Newletter

It is not the usual corporate style impersonal newsletter that is sent out every month. Nor does the FatCow blog has that faceless feel to it. They have a friendly and humourous tone to what they do, and the fact that they love webhosting and FatCow customers comes thorough.

10. 30-day money back guarantee on all plans

If you are unsatisfied with FatCow for any reason, they assure a full refund if notified within 30 days of signing up for hosting. If you have taken advantage of the free domain registration service, that will refund of $9.95 is not possible, and you may transfer it to another host if you’d like. Now that is an incentive worth trying out for.

11. Top company hosting 850,000 domains

They are now hosting over 850,000 domain names and is in the top 11 web hosting companies worldwide. You can also join these sites and be part of the FatCow experience.

web hosting offerStill thinking? Sign up for a FatCow account now (includes $10 discount code). For as low as $4.83 a month, with a 30-day full refund guarantee, tell me about a better deal…

What Is the Average Lifespan of a Vehicle?

Whether you are thinking about buying a car and trying to decide if the cost of a new car is worthwhile or are wondering how much money you should put into repairing your older vehicle, learning the average lifespan of a vehicle can help you with your decision. Of course, averages are not always accurate, and you may find that your car lives much longer or much shorter than the average, but an average can help you make an educated choice.

The Official Average According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, vehicles tend to last just over 13 years. Mileage also plays a role in how long a car, truck, or van will last, and the average final mileage for a vehicle is 145,000 miles. Half of all of the vehicles on the road today are 8 years old or older, with a third of them being at least 10 years old.

Thoughts for Buying Cars If you are in the market for another vehicle, the decision about buying new or used is sometimes difficult. Of course, your budget may dictate that you shop for a used car, and used cars depreciate much less quickly than new ones, but you will probably get a longer lifespan out of a new vehicle. New vehicles come with warranties, which make maintenance and repair early in the vehicle’s life convenient. Also, you will not be buying someone else’s “problem” when you buy a new car. If there is a mechanical problem or recall on the car, it will probably be covered in the warranty.

Buying a used car does mean you can end up buying someone else’s problem. On the other hand, if the used car is less than 8 years old, you have a pretty good indication that it will last a while, based on national averages. You will also be able to afford more “extras” in a used car than in a new car for the same amount of money, provided you have enough for a new car to begin with.

Dealing with an Existing Vehicle If you have an older car that is in need of some serious repair, such as a transmission job or a complete engine overhaul, understanding the lifespan of a vehicle will help you decide whether or not to put the money into the vehicle that is necessary for the repair. If the vehicle is almost 13 years old or has close to 145,000 miles, it is probably nearing its end. If you put a few thousand of dollars into a repair, and the vehicle only lasts a few more months or even another year, you will be in bad shape.

Instead, consider junking the car. The working used car parts, body, and even tires in some cases, can be salvaged and sold by the junkyard, and you can get some of that money upfront. You can use that money and the money you would have spent on repairs for a down payment on a more reliable used vehicle or even a new vehicle. Before you put money into the repairs, call the junkyard to see how much you can get, and consider using that money to purchase a better vehicle.

Fight Premature Rust: Get A Truck Bed Cover

Whether the truck is built for work, speed or show, truck bed covers can be very stylish. These covers were designed to provide insurance that the bed of the truck will not be harmed by whatever is being carried on the back. Some truck bed covers were designed to protect the contents of what is inside the bed of the truck.

First, the affordable kind of truck bed covers. These two types consist of either a plastic molded one piece that lies flat against the wheel wells and on the bed. The other is nothing more than a piece of thick rubber that is cut according to the size of the truck bed. Either of these two can stay inside the bed permanently without removing periodically. If these two types are not removed every now and then water will collect underneath and cause rust.

Another common type of truck bed cover is a cap. A cap fits directly to the top of the truck bed edge and sealed with foam to avoid leaks. A cap is used to protect equipment while being hauled, such as hunting and fishing equipment. Caps usually lock to keep anything under it from being stolen.

Next is the tarp truck bed cover. A tarp is usually black, and snaps into place creating the entire bed to be covered. Tarps collect dust more than any other type of truck bed cover, but they look nice if they are clean. Removal and replacement of a tarp can be a very difficult task. The tarp must be warm so it can stretch otherwise there will be some resistance.

Tanaeu covers provide the best protection against weather and thieves. These types of covers give the truck a solid back end look, because they are painted the same color of the truck and are made of fiberglass material. There is usually hydraulics that compensates the weight and makes opening and closing extremely easy. There is also a locking mechanism that locks the cover to the tailgate.

Most truck engines outlast their beds. This is why choosing one of the above truck bed covers is a wise decision. Although it is fairly easy to switch truck beds, rust looks terrible and is not very safe. Truck bed covers can sometimes come in an assortment of colors. Like any other accessory there are many choices and customized looks available. Choose the one that looks the best, fits your budget and most of all provides the protect necessary to fit the needs of the owner of the truck. Trucks are built for work, so take care of them.

Car Insurance Tips for Teen Drivers

One of the biggest days in any teen’s life is the day they get their driver’s license. But with that tiny piece of plastic arrive huge responsibilities. One of those responsibilities is auto insurance. Every newly licensed driver must arrange for adequate auto coverage.

Car insurance for teens is usually very expensive. That’s because teens, lacking driving experience, tend to get into many more crashes. They are considered high-risk. That fact should not stop any teen from getting a license, however, because with a little planning teens who drive can almost always find ways to lower their car insurance premiums.

The first thing a teen driver needs to do is to get several quotes. These quotes should come from licensed insurance providers. Different companies define teenage risk in different ways, which means one company may charge you a lot while another company may only charge you a little. There is a lot of competition in the insurance trade, and an insurer who knows you are talking to a competitor, might, just might, be willing and able to offer you a lower premium. But you have to ask, and you have to be willing to negotiate. Fortunately, the Internet makes doing insurance research and shopping for premiums a lot easier than it used to be.

If you haven’t already, look into taking basic driver education and/or defensive driving. Taking and passing these courses shows insurers that you are serious about driving safely. It allows them to rate your policy as a lower risk, and keeps your insurance costs down, usually about 10%. Talk to an agent about which courses are available to qualify you for a safe driver discounts.

Ask your agent if your company offers discounts to good students or students belonging to a club or organization. See if they extend a discount if your parents belong to a club or organization. Inquire about other possible discounts. This is where it’s helpful to check on the net before you see your agent.

Another way to get a great discount on your car insurance is bundling. If you parents have home or life coverage, sometimes their insurance providers will bundle all your policies and offer a discount. Sometimes this discount can be really substantial. And check whether the insurance company offers discounts to household that have multiple drivers or own multiple cars. This is another terrific way to lower your car insurance costs.

If you are a newly licensed teen driver or will earn your driver?s license soon, contact a qualified insurance provider. They can answer whatever questions you may have about car insurance, examine your specific situation closely and make insurance recommendations so that you are properly insured and protected behind the wheel. It will take some time, effort and research, but you could end up saving a lot of money on your insurance premiums, which makes the investment worth it.

How To Polish and Buff Your Car Paint Bodywork

There are terms like convex, concave and waffle. These are terms used in the business of polishing and buffing in the auto repair shop. To most people, polishing and buffing the car is something that they do on the weekend, but in the professional world, this function takes on a much different meaning because there are so many factors to consider in creating ?the perfect finish?, and they require a great deal of training, more than you?d think.

The polishing shop technician has a very important job. For instance, in order to get a good finish that really shines, it is necessary to deceive the eye. This is why a good technician will never use a concentric polisher, because they move in perfect circles. An eccentric polisher is one that moves off center. It has two functions, one is to distribute the compound evenly, by pushing it into the center ? this allows the compound even distribution, and it also prevents splattering of the compound and two, it confuses the eye so that the eye doesn?t see any light reflected in the lines left by a conventional concentric polisher.

As far as the tools used to get that perfect finish, there is some disagreement among technicians as to what to use, the standard wool or the newer foam buffing pads. Most quality paint manufacturers have good tips on the right way to buff and polish, and you can find them on the net.

The technicians who prefer wool say that it gives the best finish, whereas the technicians who prefer the foam pads claim that they like them because they don?t leave bits behind after they go. Although foam pads are new, they are evolving like anything that is new. A recent test was done with technicians who preferred wool, and several of those technicians said they preferred the newer foam to their old wool pads. Sometimes, a technician can be attached to their way of doing things and they will say that they like their way but they have never tried anything new in years.

They will say things like the pads they tried won?t remove wet or dry sand scratches from the panel, and they had to go back to wool to finish the job, but, as I mentioned earlier, old ways die-hard. So they don?t like to try new products, like the newer pads that are specially designed to be more like the wool pads, but without the drawbacks.

The three main types of newer foam polish pads are convex, concave and waffle and these types of pads are designed to create a compound pocket that guides the compound toward the center of the pad and not to the outside so it won?t splatter. Each of the convex, concave, or waffle pads have their own highly specialized function, but the main goal in all of this is the brilliant finish achieved by the illusion that the eye sees

HHO Fuel Cells Improve Gas Mileage With Water

HHO generators or fuel cells can produce HHO gas that help increase mileage. There seems to be no relief in sight from escalating fuel and petrol prices and people are desperately looking for ways to save fuel. What if there was a solution for gasoline, petrol or diesel engines and works on most cars or trucks.

HHO gas is also known as browns gas or simply hydroxy. This makes a nice alternative to supplement your gas as fuel prices rise. This has even been referred to as hydrogen technology but your really getting 2 gases here hydrogen and oxygen. The result is fewer emissions or pollution from the exhaust.

The process of electrolysis converts water to HHO gas a combination of hydrogen on oxygen. The HHO car seen in the news uses the same gas that has been used in high temperature welding applications for years and what you will get is a hybrid HHO car. By supplementing HHO gas with your fuel you could increase gas mileage.

Typical fuel savings of 16 – 40 % are not unusual for HHO gas generators and others report increases in power and acceleration. Have you ever seen this with a gasoline additive? Free HHO plans miss a lot but the best plans should show detail and walk you step by step with pictures and show you how to make a HHO generatort.

A home made HHO generator is a easy shop project for the weekend. Your HHO car kit should fit under the hood of just about any vehicle and only take a few hours to install. There is no further maintenance other that a few minutes of your time each month to check the water level in the fuel cell and this may be a great time to check other fluid levels.

It is not uncommon to see free HHO gas plans missing a few details. The best HHO generators plans will show you in detail and have a parts list with pictures and step by step instructions. Very little engine modifications are required. Avoid spending hundreds or thousands on a commercial HHO car kit do it for much less with a good set of plans.

286 HP1996 Impala SS

Two years ago a brand new 1996 BBB Impala SS crossed my path, since then my mind has not been able to get it off my head. My dream came true four weeks ago, A Dark Green-Gray Metallic Impala SS with only 69k on the odometer was sitting in the lot of a dealership 80+ miles away from my home.

I only have a cold-air-induction installed and can easily pull away from 3rd generation corvettes. I attend a monthly Sonic car show and I get a lot of compliments. When opening my car door to go for a drive, I get a wonderful feeling, which is hard to explain. I also kind of have a camaraderie to my car’s body like other proud owners of 1994-1996 B type body owners.

My Impala is currently stock with the exception of the cold air intake. This however does not stop me from pulling away easily during street races. This is illegal and should not be done at all, though I did beat a Corvette.

Aside from that, this car packs a punch. Every time I get in for a drive my adrenaline starts kicking. If you ever had a car that could really push you would understand.

The Impala SS features a 286 HP engine. It’s design is built for speed and its ride is fantastic. Do you as a buyer really care about this though? When I want to buy a vehicle I always hear about the good stuff.

Personally I won’t be investing any time or money fixing this annoying problem for the next few months. The reason why the car squeaks is because it is restricted. This can be solved by getting a different air intake and filter.

You can get a performance increase by K and N for about 150 dollars and this will boost your Impala’s horsepower by 26. Another thing is this is a car, and as all cars do it has it’s own problems. These problems are different for each cars.

It is really difficult to name one make and model that comes problem free. Cars have problems with their radiators, engines, pumps and wires. One thing for sure is that these problems are corrected over the years.

Decide Whether to Choose an API CI-4 or CJ-4 Rated Diesel Motor Oil?

I often hear companies arguing the relative benefits and drawbacks of the newer CJ-4 diesel engine oils vs. the older CI-4 diesel motor oils. So, why don’t we spend a few minutes explaining why you might or might not want to utilize a CJ-4 or CI-4 rated diesel motor oil in your engine(s).

Many of our customers are seeking our 15w40 viscosity AMSOIL synthetic diesel oil. Most often, this is either because they have some misgivings with regard to switching over to a “lower” viscosity oil or because they’ve been told “bad things” about the new CJ-4 oils.

Key Additives Reduced in CJ-4 Oils

It is important to note, our AME 15w40 synthetic diesel engine oil does NOT meet API CJ-4 specs because in order to meet CJ-4 classification requirements motor oil blenders/manufacturers had to make significant reductions in the levels of key additives in acid fighting. That means that the TBN was lowered.

Extended Drains Compromised?

As a result of these changes in TBN of CJ-4 oils, many diesel owners are making the assumption that the extended drain capabilities of CJ-4 oils have been compromised as compared to CI-4 oils with higher TBN values in order to blend a diesel motor oil that is more likely compatible with EGR systems found on those vehicles sold as a 2007 model or beyond.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation units installed on 2007 model and newer diesels are leaving very HEAVY soot load on the lubricant in the crankcase. This has necessitated an increase in detergents and dispersants in the new CJ-4 oils – keeping things clean is always a good thing.

Moreover, lesser quality CI-4 diesel motor oils (petroleum and “pseudo-synthetic” based) have had to implement upgrades to their basestock quality in order to meet CJ-4 specs. Thus, the CJ-4 oils are, in respects to their basestock, a higher quality lubricant. In contrast, if you’re comparing premium CJ-4 rated SYNTHETIC oils, the base stocks are likely pretty similar to their CI-4 predecessors since the original basestocks used for the CI-4 rated oils were likely already able to meet CJ-4 classification requirements.

As evidenced in the previous paragraphs, there have actually been numerous improvements made in converting from CI-4 to CJ-4 rated oils. n fact, the only drawback I can really see to moving from a CI-4 rated oil to a CJ-4 rated oil IS the potentially shorter drain intervals due to the lower TBN of such oils. However, if you don’t take your vehicles to the limit of your oil anyway, then you won’t likely notice the difference.

Chances are good that you are one of the many users that change their oil long before it’s necessary, simply because they don’t trust their oil to “go the distance”. Thus, it’s entirely possible that users may never even notice the potentially shorter CJ-4 drain interval, since they’ve never extended their oil drains with CI-4 rated oils.

In addition, there seems to be evidence that, although the starting TBN value of the CJ-4 oils is lower than CI-4 oils, TBN “retention” seems better with the CJ-4 oils. If these initial oil analysis results are proven true by continued field testing, we MAY find that CJ-4 oils are able to offer oil drain intervals similar to higher TBN CI-4 oils.

The end result: If you don’t intend on trying to extend your oil drain intervals beyond what is typical, and even if you do, you may not be at all affected by the lowering of the TBN values for CJ-4 oils. Even better, increases and improvements in the additives related to wear protection and detergency of a CJ-4 oil will be of benefit to you. Hence, for many companies and individuals owning diesel engines, the CJ-4 rated oil COULD actually prove to be the best option, whether you have a newer model diesel or not.

Why Dual Fuel Vehicles Are King

Hybrids are definitely the most popular type of “green” car on the road, but are there other options? Indeed there are many different options for vehicles that run on alternative fuels, and the surprising thing is that these other options are much cleaner running than hybrids.

The first option is a cng vehicle, whether it be factory made or a vehicle with a cng conversion kit installed. Chrysler and GM stopped making factory cng vehicle in 2004. They did this because they found a loop hole in the alternative fuel law by creating E85 Flex Fuel cars.

If you can’t find a factory made cng bi fuel car the next option is to add on a cng conversion kit to your vehicle. These kits pay for themselves within a couple of years because of how much money you will save from running your vehicle on natural gas instead of regular petrol. These kits also come with second on board computers that can really maximize mpg, engine power, and engine life.

CNG cars are really better for the environment than hybrid vehicles. Natural gas burns 90% cleaner than gasoline. This clean burning means your engine will last a long long time before giving out. Natural gas is also all made in the USA. By buying natural gas you are no longer relying on the big foreign oil companies to power America’s cars.

Dual Fuel and Bi Fuel simply mean that a car can run off of two separate fuels. This is very advantageous because if you are ever in an area that does not offer natural gas you can still fill up your car with regular gasoline so you can still drive it. Some vehicles are considered to be tri fuel as they can run on cng, gasoline, and flex fuel E85.

Because of the large number of cng conversion kits on the market, be careful and make sure you have done some research before installing a kit. We have several articles and pages of information on our website.
