Are You Thinking About Staining Your Garage Floor Using Quikrete Concrete Stain?
Quikrete holds the title as most popular between the various garage floor coatings. This could be due to a catchy name, or good old fashion reputation building, but there’s really no one even close. Considering this, it definitely makes sense that Quikrete Concrete Stain is seen as the best garage floor stain out there by most people.
Which Quikrete Concrete Stain Should You Use?
Believe it or not, there’s any specific product called “Quikrete Concrete Stain”. For those that aren’t in the know, this can lead to some confusion as, when searching for Quikrete Concrete Stain, the results you get will be either Quikrete Semi-Transparent Concrete Stain, or another staining product, Quikrete Etching Stain. You need to be careful when you decide, too, as the two products are going to give you very different results. Let’s take a look at the Quikrete Etching Stain. In time, I’m sure I’ll get to the Semi-Transparent Concrete Stain, but not now. Oh, don’t get so upset, I’ll do it eventually. And don’t forget to eat your vegetables.
According To Quikrete, Etching Stain Is The Best Solution For Your Garage
Actually, to be more exact, Quikrete doesn’t recommend you use anything other than etching stain in your garage, and for good reason. Etching involves nothing short of melting the top layer of your concrete garage floor with acid so that you can scrape texture into it while, in this case, adding the stain as well. The result is garage flooring with improved grip for both car tires and human shoes or feet, as well as an old world, classic stone look.
OMIGAH! Etching Sounds Complicated!
Don’t worry, etching concrete is easy. In fact, Quikrete advertises a one-coat application with their etching stain. Ironically, they also make it extremely clear that you must use a sealant as well, which pretty much takes that one coat thing and throws it right out the window. The total install is still a heck of a lot easier than epoxy garage floor paint, though, and after the sealant is applied, you will have a modicum of protection as well, which is something that etching stain alone cannot provide. Oh, and you also have to clean the heck out of your garage floors, and should probably use some sort of stain remover before you even start with the etching. Yeah, one coat my butt…wait, never mind, get away from me.
Staining Is Cheaper Than An Epoxy Garage Floor Coating, Right?
Well, usually, but not in this particular case. Quikrete Etching Stain can run over $300, even before sealant and cleaner, probably due to the acids that are used during the etching. That’s not cheap for concrete stain, which usually is less expensive than most garage floor tiles. However, garage floor tile will not result in a marble look. Worth the additional money? Well, that totally depends on your perspective. If the main purpose is to protect your concrete, then probably not, even though the seal in the end will give a bit of protection. If the point of all this is to give your garage an interesting look from other, more common garage floor finishes, then you may have found your coating.
