I’ve always wanted a scooter. I used to go to the park and see kids bigger than me do tricks with theirs, and I wanted one too. My parents wouldn’t buy me one and started explaining to me the value of money and how I needed to work for the money required to buy a scooter.

A single single-tracked vehicles on two wheels are called as motorcycles. Motorcycles come in three classes. These are the off-road motorcycles, street motorcycles and the dual purpose motorcycles. Motorcycles that are designed specifically for racing purposes are called off-road motorcycles. These are prohibited from transportation. Street bikes are what are commonly used for transportation. These again come under different sub-categories such as mopeds, cruisers, sport bikes and scooters. The dual purpose motorcycles are used for transportation as well as racing. Scooters come in different models. They are of many kinds. These are the electric scooters, motorized scooters, gas scooters, kick scooters and mobility scooters.

Motorcycles including scooters have become a popular means of transport. The heavy traffic snarls and the general traffic congestion and the compulsion to travel make motorcycles attractive. Motorcycles have become more fuel efficient with increasing fuel prices. City life particularly demands short travels from home to the office or shops. Scooters with newer designs have been introduced. It is becoming more and more expensive even to use motorcycle in the cities with the rising charges one has to pay for using the roads. Though hailed to be environmentally better than other motor vehicles for its lower emission of greenhouse gases, the motorcycles are more polluting. With more motorcycles on the road, this indeed poses a problem. The kick scooter is an innovation in the scooter industry.

The dual purpose motorcycles are used both for motor racing and transportation.
